Sophia's Journey

The SAMarionetas company presents its new production based on the text The journey of the book Contos Exemplares de Sophia de Mello Breyner. This is a journey that is being made through the characters of the story represented in puppets of direct manipulation that move in poetic wanderings through a place in constant mutation. The read word and the disconcerting movement of the imaginary world where all the action takes place is the motto for getting involved in the imagery of the poet through her words.

"The Journey, one of the Exemplary Tales by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, recreated by SA Marionetas, can be interpreted as the path of life, a journey full of losses and without return, because all the choices are irreversible.

In this recreation made by the Alcobacense group, two faceless puppets bring life to the man and woman, protagonists of the tale (are we not all anonymous puppets ??)… The clarity of Sophia's word accompanies the whole performance, giving her the solemn magic in which the manipulators move, three silent figures, almost invisible… The delicacy of the gestures, the simple beauty of the scenery and the objects are the homage that Sophia would like, in a show in which the poetic word and the action are perfectly combined . In the end, the sound of Israel Costa Pereira's guitar leads us to believe that something exists beyond the abyss ... "
