In partnership with SA Marionetas, Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras will stage El Retablo de Maese Pedro, a work by Manuel de Falla that tells a passage from Cervantes' famous work, Don Quixote, through a puppet show. The composer recreates a medieval atmosphere with his music, using neoclassical writing that combines different periods and styles, from ancient music, folklore, liturgical music and more avant-garde languages.

Taking advantage of the short duration of the work (about 30 minutes), the show will be preceded by a pedagogical part in which the narrator will explain, accompanied by musical examples extracted from the work itself, the context of the story, the period in which it takes place, the literary context of its author, the context of its composition and also the demonstration of the musical illustration of the characters and scenes, thus also giving this production a pedagogical character and making it a show for all ages.
